Training Restaurants

Western Sydney Institute understands that students studying hospitality courses need to be exposed to real work-based experiences, like the pressures of working in a busy restaurant. Our fine dining restaurants are operated by our students as part of their training.

Western Sydney Institute's four restaurants provide experience for both front and back of house, and food and beverage service. Open for lunch and for dinner (on selected days) during term time they operate in the same way as any commercial restaurant. Training restaurants include the latest techniques, menus and highest quality foods. Students display a high level of customer service in all they do.

Coffee Barista - Blue Mountains

We offer a range of Espresso courses commencing with the Espresso Coffee – Introduction which provides participants with the fundamentals of good coffee, including the importance of roasting and grinding and how to safety operate a commercial coffee machine and extract a perfect espresso base.

We also offer the nationally accredited course; Prepare and Serve Espresso Coffee which covers the skills to organise and set-up the coffee preparation areas, advice customers on the different types of espresso coffee, texture milk, serve and present espresso coffee, clean and maintain an espresso machine.

Courses can be undertaken on campus or at your workplace. Our experienced Barista trainers can provide recognition of your skills if you are already an experienced Barista or they can provide the full training as required.

Blue Mountains College offers training on campus in the purpose built internet cafe, which is located in the College Library. It is operated as a training cafe by the hospitality section. Students from relevant courses can obtain valuable "real life" experience in cafe operations. At these times you can enjoy a coffee and cake, or perhaps a light meal; read a magazine, newspaper or book, and use one of the internet computers in the area.
