The qualification covers the role of self-employed or employed persons who work independently with limited supervision in a defined range of varied contexts that may be complex and non-routine.

A trackrider is a person who is independently engaged or employed to exercise thoroughbred horses on the instruction of a trainer. The duties require judgement and the ability to communicate information concerning horse health, performance and temperament accurately to the trainer as well as high level riding skills and the ability to interpret and relay information covering a variety of circumstances.

Licensing considerations
This qualification is required for industry licensing and registration in some states and territories. Refer to your state or territory Principal Racing Authority for advice.

It is a prerequisite of this course that you are able to walk, trot and canter on a horse.

There are no entry requirements for this qualification. However leaners should have experience with horses before enrolling into thiscourse.

Credit (or recognition) for modules/units may be granted based on previous learning, studies, work and/or life experiences. Please discuss this with the teaching section when you enrol.

Trackrider for a thoroughbred racing stable.

RGR30108 the Certificate III in Racing (Trackrider) will enable graduates to work as a Trackrider in a thoroughbred racing environment. Employment opportunities also exist as stablehands and as multi skilled employees of racetracks. Opportunities are also available in other sectors of the equine industry.

Smart and Skilled Student Fees

The cost of this course will vary based on your eligibility for a Smart and Skilled Student Fee. Eligibility criteria can be found on the Smart and Skilled website or you can call us on 131 870 for further information and advice.

Non-government subsidised fee$8,910

Trainees: From 2016 if you are starting a traineeship that is on the NSW Skills List, your Smart and Skilled fee for the whole qualification will not be more than $1,000.

When enrolling under a Smart and Skilled entitlement and where you are eligible for 100% credit from previous studies, your student fee contribution will be zero. However, you will be required to pay an administration fee for the production of your testamur.
