This qualification is suitable for people working in entry level positions in
the maritime industry as a General Purpose Hand on deck or in the engine room of
a vessel up to 80 metres within the exclusive economic zone (EEZ) or in the
engine room only for a vessel with propulsion power up to 3000 kW.

Deckhands or general purpose hands in the maritime industry.

Although there are no academic entry requirements to enrol in this TAFE qualification, there are other requirements that you must satisfy in order to obtain the AMSA GPH Certificate of Competency which will enable you to apply for work in the Maritime Industry.

Other requirements may include: be at least 16 years of age, holding a current First Aid certificate, satisfactory completion of an eyesight test and declaration of medical fitness.
