This course is for people aiming at employment in the metal and engineering
industry in occupations at engineering technician level carrying out tasks such
as engineering design and quality control/assurance monitoring.

You will gain compulsory competencies in organising and analysing information,
interacting with computing technology and selecting engineering materials. You
will also gain a range of elective competencies in areas relevant to your
current or intended employment, such as CAD, drafting, quality
control/assurance, basic fluid power, basic mechanical design, production
scheduling, cost estimating and non-destructive testing.

The course duration will vary depending on the training pathway agreed to
between you, your employer and the TAFE College.

Students who have successfully completed MEM30505 Certificate III in Engineering - Technical will receive advanced standing for the units common to both courses, which is approximately halfway through the Diploma MEM50212.

If this becomes necessary, the Institute will advise you of the change and the arrangements which will be available for you to complete your alternate course.

There are no entry requirements for this qualification.

However, it is recommended that applicants have the Certificate III in
Engineering - Technical, or a NSW Higher School Certificate (or equivalent)
with assumed knowledge in Mathematics or Physics.

It is also recommended that applicants be already employed or seeking
employment, in the Metals and Engineering industry.

Are there any additional entry requirements?

A number of courses may require prospective students to provide additional information such as documentation, an expression of interest, evidence that you are already employed as an apprentice, or preferred prior study (or equivalent).

Credit (or recognition) for modules/units may be granted based on previous learning, studies, work and/or life experiences. Please discuss this with the teaching section when you enrol.

This course is approved for a Commonwealth VET Student Loan. If you meet the eligibility requirements, you are able to apply to the Commonwealth for a loan to cover all or part of your course fee.
