This course is for people wanting to undertake animal technology functions
within a biomedical research or production environment. It is also suitable for
those already employed in the care and husbandry of animals used in research.
Job roles include animal technician, laboratory animal technician, technical
officer and field technician.

The course helps you develop the skills needed to perform the duties of an
animal technician at a junior or assistant level. It is essential that whilst
undertaking this qualification you have access to an animal technology workplace
through either paid employment or significant periods of work placement or work
experience.

By completing the course you will be able to carry out containment and exclusion
procedures, prepare animals for anaesthesia, conduct non-surgical procedures on
animals, monitor and maintain animal health and wellbeing, provide behavioural
enrichment for research animals and carry out simple breeding procedures.

Pathways from this course include the ACM50110 Diploma of Animal Technology or
qualifications in captive animals, companion animal services or veterinary
nursing.
