Australian Racing & Equine Academy

A partnership has been formed between Racing NSW and TAFE NSW Western Sydney Institute. Recently the partnership launched their new web site "The Australian Racing & Equine Academy". This new web site has been developed to provide information for horse trainers and parents, advice for students and prospective employees to the racing and equine industries plus so much more.

The Equine Studies Centre based at Richmond College offers a comprehensive suite of qualifications to suit the many and varied needs of all those involved in the equine industry. With state of the art facilities, including stable block and new undercover arena, and dedicated Blacksmithing and Farrier facilities, the college is well placed to cater for all training requirements.

Our skilled staff, who are all experts in their own fields, are also highly experienced educators who bring a wealth of current knowledge and experience to the training sessions. As many staff are currently working in industry, they bring up to date and relevant experiences to the lesson.

The section offers qualifications for the Performance Horse and Horse Breeding Industry,(which includes Equine Nursing), the Racing Industry, (which includes, Stablehands, Jockeys, Thoroughbred Trainer and Trackrider), Trade courses in Farriery and Blacksmithing. Qualifications range from Certificate I through to Diploma level and can be undertaken either full time or part time. We also offer a number of programs flexibly, including online.

Our WSI PLUS courses are designed to address your specific needs in a flexible way so many are offered as short courses in your workplace, on weekends or at times that suit those who cannot attend normal college hours. These courses include Equine Massage Therapy, Equestrian Coaching, Greyhound Care and Conditioning, Hoof Care, Saddle Fitting and Ornamental Blacksmithing.

There is a growing need within the equine industry both in Australia and overseas for consistent and recognised skills in horse massage as horse owners become more aware of the health benefits of massage. Our Diploma in Equine Massage Therapy is a para professional qualification that provides participants with the necessary technical skills and knowledge of horse anatomy and physiology, horse biomechanics and conformation movement, horse massage techniques and horse health and nutrition. This qualification is highly specialised with expert trainers providing the latest information and techniques during the program.
