The project will provide Western Sydney Institute with purpose built facilities for the skills shortage areas of Nursing and Aged Care as well as facilities for Dental Studies, Optical Dispensing, Audiometry and Sterilising in a major College in the Western Sydney region. This will help reduce the impact of limited pre-employment training capacity in existing public and private health service providers in Western Sydney region by providing specialist training facilities for enrolled nursing; aged care; allied health services, including audiometry; optical; dental and sterilisation, along with student support services for Aboriginal, economically and socially disadvantaged, students with a disability, culturally diverged and unemployed students.
This project will cater for the needs arising from the Penrith Health and Education Precinct being a world leading specialised centre for Tele-Health, Translational Medicine and Preventative and Primary Health care.
This project has been developed to provide increased capacity and specialised facilities for health and allied service industries which are identified skill shortage areas. It will provide the opportunity for delivery in a range of new health training areas such as dental, optical dispensing, audiometry and sterilisation. The new facility will incorporate both Health Care training spaces and Student Support Services. It will accommodate over 1,800 students in the region's critical skills shortage areas of Aged Care and Nursing as well as in Dental, Audiometry, Optical and Allied Health. The facility will reflect contemporary hospital and allied health environments by providing four clinical spaces, a dental laboratory and other training and support spaces. The project will also provide offices for counsellors, disability consultants and other specialised student support staff to provide student support services for over 8,000 students at the College
