The Skills Exchanges at Barangaroo and Darling Harbour were recognised for their positive impact and outstanding results for the construction workforce. This collaboration between TAFE Western Sydney and Lendlease has changed the way workforce development needs of employers are met and the ways workers engage with training. Some of the factors contributing to the collaboration’s success have been an apprentice mentoring program, close contact with employers which has allowed us to understand and respond quickly and efficiently to training needs; and improving literacy, numeracy and computer skills of workers. Once again the major contributor is the outstanding work of staff who have well and truly moulded their daily work around learner needs.
OTEN and the Skills Exchanges are now in the running for national Training Awards which will be announced in November. I would like to sincerely thank and congratulate our staff who have contributed to the success of OTEN and the Skills Exchanges.
