Awards for Western Sydney TAFE achievers

2016 Institute Medallist Peta Frullani with 2015 Institute Medallist Jemima Morris

Twenty-two of TAFE Western Sydney’s highest achievers were presented with awards last night at the annual Student Excellence Awards event. The event was attended by around 240 guests including award recipients, and government and industry representatives.

Hazelbrook resident and Landscape Designer Peta Frullani was named TAFE Western Sydney’s 2016 Institute Medallist. Institute Director Robin Shreeve paid tribute to the Peta’s achievements as well as that of the other award winners.

“Peta has shown dedication, passion and ambition in working towards her career goals,” Mr Shreeve said.

“Fuelled by a passion for plants, Peta made changes in her life so that she could pursue a career in landscape design. The high quality of her work has been confirmed through winning landscape design competitions and she is now running her own Landscape Design business while she continues her studies with a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture at university.

“Each of the Student Excellence Award winners has worked hard to achieve their goals. Through TAFE studies their futures have been shaped and they are making valuable contributions to their workplaces and the workforce.

“We are proud of their achievements and are proud of the part we have played in shaping their futures.”

Amongst the winners were graduate Chef John Agzarian, who won a TAFE NSW Ambassador Prize and Health and Community Student of the Year Lauren Churchill, who left school and chose to follow an alternative path to her career.

“I knew what I wanted to do, how to get there and was very passionate to learn more about disability and to start working in industry,” Lauren said.

“By doing my qualification I could continue on to a certificate IV and diploma, allowing me automatic entry into university doing social work. I have such a passion for what this course is about and wanted to learn more and help to change people's lives for the better.”

The Student Excellence Awards showcased graduates from a wide range of disciplines including manufacturing and engineering, hairdressing, hospitality, accounting and information technology.

Two Industry Awards were also presented to Hudson Meats and Burger Project for their outstanding contribution to the skills development of their employees.

Institute Director Robin Shreeve said that the event was made possible through the generous support of sponsors such as NewsCorp, Billboards Australia, Western Sydney University, Val Morgan Cinema Network, Go Transit Media Group and Moove Media.
